The Course
This five-day intensive course is perfect for students heading off to university or those who just want to gain more experience in the kitchen! The course is packed with recipes that are designed to be affordable for student-living while still having the ‘wow’ factor for those who want to entertain for family or friends. Our students will cover as many different culinary techniques so that they students leave with the confidence to not only create our recipes again but to adapt and create their own.
We are an Approved Activity Provider and this course qualifies for The Residential Project of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
Here are just some of the skills students will cover;
- Knife Skills
- Food Hygiene
- Restaurant Service Skills – helpful for those wanting jobs whilst at university
- Safety in the kitchen
- Healthy eating
- Use of leftovers and bulk cooking to save money
A huge range of dishes will be taught from healthy breakfast options to entertaining on a budget, cake baking and perfect pastry! Below is a selection of dishes that may be prepared:
- Smoothies
- Scotch Pancakes
- Eggs Benedict
- Stir Fry
- Quinoa and sweet potato salad
- Pizza
- Chicken Curry
- Roast dinner
- Chicken Pie
- Fruit Crumble
- Profiteroles and chocolate sauce
- Naughty chocolate fudge cake
On successful completion of the course you will leave with a Certificate of Achievement (useful when applying for jobs), An extensive Recipe Folder and a two week menu plan.
The evening activities are included, here are some of the activities students may be partaking in, a farm walk scavenger hunt, pottery workshop, an art class and a celebratory dinner/assessment session. (activities vary dependant on tutor availability).
Price includes four nights accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as evening activities.
Course start time 10.45am.
Students will be ready to depart at 2.45pm on the last day of the course.
There will be 14 students in each class.
You do not have to be completing your Duke of Edinburgh’s award to take part.

Accommodation
The accommodation is based on sharing a twin room in one of our on-site Bed and Breakfast rooms. All of our B & B rooms have their own bathroom.
Our cookery school is situated in the countryside so there is plenty of outdoor space for students to exercise. There are wonderful walking routes around the private farmland. There is also a volley ball, badminton net on a large playing field, a comfortable lounge area and a games room which students have access to in their free time. Students are also given the opportunity to book our onsite Padel Tennis courts should they wish to. The games room has a football table, giant Jenga, Uno, chess and other games which are great for breaking the ice!
Accommodation for Evening Prior to the Course Start Date
Subject to availability, accommodation for the evening prior to course start date can be offered at the discounted rate of £70 for single occupancy including full Yorkshire Breakfast. Please note that students will be treated as regular Bed & Breakfast guests and therefore an evening meal will not be provided for this night. For those students arriving by train, we can provide details of local taxi firms but sadly cannot provide a collection service.
Travel
We are close to Hutton Cranswick and Driffield railway stations. Neither of these stations have taxi ranks. Please feel free to contact us for details of local taxi firms. Booking is essential.
D of E Policy – Knowing Others on The Course
Please note, under the rules of the D of E award, the majority of the other participants on the class should be unknown to you.
Cancellation & Transfer Policy
Cancellations
More than 40 days notice – course fees will be returned in full subject to an administration fee of £100.00 Less than 40 days notice – ALL course fees will be retained unless we are able to fill your place. If we are able to reallocate your place course fees will be returned in full subject to an administration fee of £100.00. Less than seven days – no refund will be offered.
In the unlikely event that we have to cancel a course due to lack on numbers we will endeavour to offer you a suitable alternative. If this is not possible you will be entitled to a full refund. Please note we do require a minimum attendance on all courses and sadly may have to cancel if the appropriate number is not reached.
Transfer of Booking
More than 40 days notice – acceptable subject to an administration fee of £30.00.
Less than 40 days notice – £30.00 fee if we are able to fill your original place, £100.00 if we are unable to reallocate your place.
